Budget hostel in Istanbul – Sultan hostel review

Budget hostel in Istanbul – Sultan hostel review

Istanbul is one of the most magic cities in Europe. This is where East meets West and different cultures mix into a melting pot. Istanbul is filled with budget hostels, some wonderful, some ok and some terrible.

Last time I stayed at the Cordial guest house but decided not to repeat my previous experience. If you want to read the review: here.

This time I decided to stay at the Sultan hostel, which had very positive review with the hostelworld and bookers.com and I’m glad I did it!

The Sultan hostel in Istanbul

The Sultan hostel offers budget accommodation in dorms or private bedrooms. It’s centrally located. So central you don’t need to walk more than 5 minutes to bump into the Blue mosque, the Agya Sofia and all other attractions.

The hostel also runs a restaurant and cafe, so if you’re too tired and lazy don’t go any further. The breakfast is included and it’s more than I was expecting. It was one of the best breakfasts I’ve experienced so far. You can choose to eat indoors or outdoors while enjoying the warm breeze and watch the day start in one of the most beautiful capitals of the world.

Sultan hostel – the cafe and restaurant

The cafe and restaurant offer a very “Turkish feeling” with the decorations and ambiance. I truly enjoyed sitting there after the long walks around town.

Reception

Reception

I have to add that the fact that the staff is incredibly friendly. At the entrance, near the receptionist you’ll be offered a small locker, for your valuable stuff.

There is a small computer room with 24hour internet connection for free, which is very convenient for travelers who don’t have a laptop.

The dorms are very spacious and clean. Th beds are very comfy too.  Here they offer an upper sheet, unlike many others, which makes it all most hygienic. If you’re sensitive to snoring, you might want to go for a female’s only room!

The only thing that was missing were a few lockers for you to put your things, like laptop and other valuables that don’t fit at the little locker at the entrance.

The bathrooms were very clean as well, but I can imagine there might be some queuing during high season.

All in all Sultan hostel was a pleasant surprise. The well located, with friendly and helpful staff, comfy spacious dorms and a lovely restaurant/cafe. I found tout they have an amazing roof top, where you can watch the sunrise over the Bosphorus.

I loved my experience here and met amazing people. I would definitely stay here again.
