Traveling as a couple can make your love stronger

Traveling as a couple can make your love stronger

Traveling as a couple can be one of the most rewarding experiences.  A way to celebrate and appreciate our loved one, our better half, our soul mate.  It’s also time to stop and think in which ways we can improve our relationship, what can we add to it and how we can rediscover each other one more time. I find traveling to be one of the best ways of reconnect with someone I love and here’s why…

6 ways in which traveling as a couple can make your love stronger

Happiness only real when shared. “

HAPPINESS IS ONLY REAL WHEN SHARED

While traveling solo can be one of the most rewarding, inspiring and empowering activities you can do in your life; traveling as a couple can be one of the most memorable experiences of discovery and sharing you can possibly have.

Traveling always puts us to the test and adds to our lives. It’s one of the best investments we can possibly do and when we travel with our better half, that investment doubles. And I’m not talking about all inclusive resorts where you barely get out of your comfort zone, but a true adventurous trip. . When you travel as a couple with your loved one you will enrich your life together in many ways. You’ll be writing history, creating amazing moments and adventures to which you’ll always look back with humor and affection. Relationships are all about creating and growing, so is traveling.

I have found out that there ain’t no surer way to find out whether you like people or hate them than to travel with them.” – Mark Twain

TRAVELING AS A COUPLE HELPS YOU TO KNOW THE OTHER SIDE OF HIM/HER

It’s nothing new, that traveling will challenge us, will push us out of the comfort zone. This factor makes many aspects of our personalities to surface, some of which we’re not aware of or familiar with. A great way to discover and explore each others personalities is when both of you are at neutral grounds, out of your comfort zones and having all your boundaries pushed. If you’re heading to a serious relationship, nothing’s better than having an adventurous travel with him/her before committing. Try to learn how your loved one reacts to challenges, frustration, sudden change of plans. Check out how supportive he is when your backpack becomes too heavy to carry during a trekking, how grumpy she gets when your train ride gets canceled or how humorous he can be when finding out that amazing guesthouse you booked online is actually a dump.

These kind of situations will give you a pretty good example on how life will be with that person.

If we admit that human life can be ruled by reason, then all possibility of life is destroyed.

TRAVELING AS A COUPLE HELPS YOU REDISCOVER EACH OTHER ONE MORE TIME

If you’ve been in a long term relationship, whether it feels stuck or not, traveling will always open grounds to growth when you’re on the road. Routine can kill many relationships, the everyday life, the stress, the mortgage, the demanding boss…. everything that can affect you negatively can be postponed while you’re traveling. So you’ll be presented with a bran new canvas in which you can paint a bran new picture.

I’ve done it myself. When my long term relationship fell apart, after many problems and little nurturing, we decided to take off to India for half a year and see if things would improve, away from our every day life. It had almost reached the point of no return, but miraculously we managed to connect again during that long trip. Since we didn’t chose the easiest destination on earth, we had to support each other on the most nerve wrecking trip of our lives. That trip was the flipping point that rescued our relationship.

One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.”

Henry Miller

TRAVELING AS A COUPLE  WILL BOOST YOUR DESIRE FOR EACH OTHER

Lack of sexual or intimate interest by your partner is another consequence of routine and daily stresses. Many couples divorce or separate because of the total lack of interest, they grow apart to a point of no return.

Break from all the everyday constrains and head to an adventure trip somewhere. It doesn’t have to be a long or expensive one. Just get out of your bedroom, and try something new. Rent a winter cabin up In the mountains and enjoy a good wine by the fireplace. Maybe you need to soak in some sun at a tropical island. Go for a hike and maybe you’ll find a hidden spot in the nature where both of you can spent time together. Don’t let your flame die. Feed the fire while it’s still burning, no matter how low the flame is at the moment, there’s always hope. Don’t be shy, don’t be scared. Unleash your sexiness and attractive side that made your loved one fall madly in love with you once more. If He/she fell for you once, will will definitely fall for you twice!

Travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.”

TRAVELING AS A COUPLE WILL TURN YOU INTO EACH OTHERS BEST BUDDY

Ohh those long train and bus rides… the check ins, the long lines and waiting time at the airport. Those are the “dead moments” when you’ll be talking to each other a lot. You’ll be each others best company. Remember that nothing unifies a couple more than talking and camaraderie. When you’re talking to each other for hours you’ll be bonding. Sharing expectations, hopes and dreams. Many couples stop talking to each other after many years together. They routinely do their tasks, forgetting there’s a friend, a lover and a buddy right there. Fill up those boring dead moments with lively chats and laughter.

The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.”

St. Augustine

DRAW INSPIRATION FROM OTHER COUPLES

Yes, make new friends! It’s so nice to meet new people who share the same interests in life. You’ll bump into so many like minded folks along the way. Making new friends and meeting other traveling couples, can inspire you in many ways. You might get inspired by couples who keep their love fresh and fiery, despite all odds. Learn with others who might have a total unconventional life. Try to learn new skills on how to lead your love and relationship. I’ve noticed by experience, that couples who travel often, tend to stick together longer.

Remember that whatever point you find yourself in right now, is the result of your thoughts and actions. Start creating today what you want to have blossoming in your life tomorrow.

  1. <3 this article! :)

    • Thank you Veganmiam, I <3 your work too! Big hugs from cold Switzerland :)

  2. I wouldn’t say happiness isn’t real until shared! But some experiences are definitely better shared.

No matter how long you’ve been together, travel will teach you something about yourselves and each other. We had about 7/8 years under our belt but long term travel was a whole new challenge.

    • Yes, I agree with you. Happiness is true even if you’re alone, no matter where. I think The author realized that after so many months traveling alone and having no one to share his happiness with the lonely road could be much better with someone by his side.

  3. What a wonderful article! I agree with everything you said. There is no better “test” to a relationship than travel. You see the good, the bad and the surprising sides of your significant other. Nothing is hidden – or can be hidden.

Travelling is a very intimate thing and a wonderful experience to have with the person you love.

    Happy V Day!

    • Yes, traveling is a big test and a very intimate experience that kill any boredom or routine. Couples who travel together, usually stick together longer :)

  4. Great post! I love travelling as a couple, and I really feel that travelling can reignite a relationship that’s getting bogged down by daily stresses. Unfortunately travelling on a super budget can also add these strains, so I think it’s really important to try and make time for romantic things, secluded walks, wine and not only 10-bed dorm rooms haha!

    • Yes Charlie, a romantic trip on a 10 bed dorm can get a bit kinky, hahaha A low budget can be a bit of a problem for a romantic time out, but on the other hand, the expenses are divided by 2 which makes it all cheaper. If the only option is the 10 bed dorm, then… better invest a lot of time on those walks in secluded places :) I went through that back in the days, hahaha
